Populus simonii is widespread in the greater Cape Town area where the appearance of the delicate catkins heralds the arrival of spring. This beautiful deciduous tree is extremely hardy and although it is not indigenous, is able to withstand even the most difficult growing conditions. This non suckering species is ideally suited to any landscaping project where a tree with lovely luxuriant growth yet requiring little maintenance is sought.
